Bughouse Theater is devoted to fostering public appreciation of the arts, the artistic growth of our members, and facilitating collaboration of diverse artists across all media and disciplines.
A collection of artists, actors, writers, and filmmakers creating a new venue for themselves and their city.
A dedication to the enrichment of the community through art and the enrichment of art through the community.
A belief in the strength of ensembles and the principles of an artist-owned venue.
The name “Bughouse” is taken from Chicago’s Bughouse Square, a gathering place for orators, free speech advocates and rabble-rousers of old. Slang for mental institution, “Bughouse” seemed to fit the cast of characters that frequented the square. It is in the spirit of that place that we hope to establish ourselves.
Bughouse Theater is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2007.
You name it, we might do it. Bughouse Theater is focused on giving back; working collaboratively with philanthropic organizations like the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
A project we hold dear to our funny bone, Hogwash, inspires city kids and teens alike to express themselves through comedic participation and improvisation.
Have an outreach program we should consider partnering? Want to volunteer? Attend a board meeting (located on our Rehearsal Calendar) and let us know how we can help!
