FAQs

Bughouse is a non-profit theater and arts organization run by a group of dedicated volunteers comprised of veteran performers, filmmakers, and producers.
-
Just about anyone. Most shows shows are produced by independent, individual producers.
-
It can end up being free and most producers make a little money in the process.
We have three different plans (70%, 50% and Buyout) and two tiers of shows (Peak and Off-Peak) to choose from that can affect how much of a deposit you pay up front. But, Bughouse does not make anything from your show until you have broken even.
-
Yes. Don’t get us wrong. Nobody, especially us, is getting rich or anything. But, shows that are successfully promoted can earn a significant amount. We think the economic bar for entry has been too high in the improv theater and sketch comedy community. Making our performance slots more affordable promotes economic diversity in the arts. We also believe that artists should be compensated for their work. We give the producers their share of the ticket sales and expect them to share that revenue with individual artists and performers that worked on their show. But, the details of that arrangement are left up to them.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday are $150 and all other days are $100.
-
The 70 Plan: Requires the full deposit up front. The deposit is refunded from the ticket sales. The producer earns 70% of the profit.
The 50 plan: Requires half the deposit up front and half from ticket sales. The deposit is refunded from ticket sales. The producer earns 50% of profits.
The Buyout: Requires double the deposit up front. The deposit is not refunded. The producer earns 100% of ticket sales.

We provide a house manager/box office staff for your show, but we do not have a tech person on staff. We have a list of tech people that you can contact to hire if you need one.

Producers propose a show through a form on our website or perhaps via email sent by the artistic director. The artistic director requests date and time preferences chosen from those that are available. Once the dates and times are agreed upon they are confirmed by payment of the deposit and submitting acknowledgement of the terms and conditions.
Producers will then be contacted by Bughouse’s social media team to submit graphics, show descriptions and other promotional information. The box office team will work on getting ticket links up and running as soon as possible. Submitting artwork, etc early will make that process move much faster.

Ticket sales for all of the month's shows will be processed starting on the first of the following month. Within the first week of the following month you should receive an email breaking down the amount to expect. Every producer is encouraged over the next few days to respond with any questions or errors that they notice. Producers will generally receive two payments. The first will be a refund of their deposit. The second, if warranted, will be a zelle payment (or ACH or check). Physical checks will need to be picked up at the theater.
-
Please promote your show. You can also hang posters at the theater, send your graphics to socialmedia@bughousetheater.com and the social media team will post on all of our social outlets. We also post a weekly show schedule on our social media and you will be listed on our website calendar.
-
Yes. Please do. A link will be on our website for your presales by the end of the previous month. If there are any questions about your link please contact boxoffice@bughousetheater.com.

Yes we are BYOB… However, some in the past have taken this to mean that they can hand out alcohol for free. THIS IS VERY ILLEGAL. Producers and performers cannot give alcohol out. Patrons must bring their own alcohol. At no point can a producer, performer, or anyone who could reasonably be considered a representative of the theater provide alcohol to an audience member. We could be fined or shut down.
